Slender: The Eight Pages (a.m.a Slender ) is a costless-to-play indie-developed first-person survival horror video game released in June 2012 as a beta for Microsoft Windows and Bone Ten by Parsec Productions, using the Unity engine. Developed by Mark J. Hadley, the game is based on the quasi-folklore meme figure known as the Slender Human being, who is depicted as a tall humanoid creature wearing a blackness suit and necktie with a white face up and no facial features. The character is known for the ominous (although fictitious) abduction of countless children in dark mysterious settings, such as deep forests and abandoned buildings.

Gameplay [ edit ]

Slender: The 8 Pages is set in a forest during the eye of the night, and is played from a get-go person perspective. The thespian's objective is to collect all eight notes located in various areas of the woods while avoiding the Slender Man. Equally the actor collects pages, the fog in the woods grows thicker, and Slender Man appears closer to the role player'south graphic symbol, though the character's sprinting speed slowly increases as well. Slender Man moves by teleporting, creeping around the player, simply only from a certain distance. The role player is equipped with simply a flashlight to see through the night (its battery life is express and volition eventually shut downward permanently if left on for an extended catamenia of time). The player's character has the ability to "jog", which will eventually tire out the histrion and make them wheeze if forced to go on for as well long, causing slower walking as well. Slender Man volition occasionally appear in the player's field of vision, accompanied by a loud slamming noise and/or static on the screen. This then allows the ability to "sprint" to become bachelor to the player. "Sprinting" allows the player to move faster than "jogging" does, but will also decrease the maximum stamina available for "jogging" and "sprinting". A game over occurs when either the actor has taken likewise long to notice a note, the histrion stares at Slender Man for too long, or if Slender Human being comes into contact with the player, which will turn them around and end the game. The game over screen shows Slender Homo'south face upward close and blinking static pulses. [1]

Game modes [ edit ]

In Version 0.9.4 there is a "Daytime Way" that can be unlocked. To unlock this way, the player must trounce the game on "Normal", in which the catastrophe shows the player's graphic symbol awakens in the daytime after collecting all eight pages and existence caught by Slender Man. [2] After waking upward, the histrion can walk around in the daytime for a few seconds before the credits roll. "Daytime Mode" is simply during the day and without a flashlight. If the actor beats "Daytime Mode" the catastrophe will be the aforementioned as before, only the player wakes upwards at night. Later the credits coil, the player will take unlocked "$xx Mode". In this style, the gameplay is the same every bit "Normal Mode", except that if the thespian sees Slender Man a song chosen "20 Dollars" by American rap artist Ron Browz starts playing. This is a reference to a fan-originated meme about Slender Human being, stating that if a person gives Slender Man $twenty, he will leave the person solitary. This is the only version in which the Player selects these modes in the "Options" portion of the menu screen, and this is as well the only version in which 2 hidden modes can be played at the aforementioned time ("Daytime Mode" and "$20 Fashion"). At that place is as well an "MH (Marble Hornets) Style", viewing the gameplay as a 'Marble Hornets' entry. The creepy sounds and folio collector take been removed, there are static confined on the edges, and the ending is slightly unlike. The "$20 Style" has been absent since version 0.9.7; The accompanying readme advises "One game mode removed - it was only a matter of fourth dimension as it contained copyrighted cloth", referring to the Browz track that'southward used in that mode.

Changes from versions [ edit ]

The game was first released in version 0.9.0 as Slender. Originally, when the histrion would be caught past the Slender Human being, the game would quit and render to the desktop. Information technology remained this way until version 0.9.three (the third update), and the player now has the option to either try over again or to quit. From version 0.9.7 on, there is an ambiance during the menu screen, besides as portions of the eight pages being shown. There are also at present links to the Slender Man Mythos Forums and some popular web series based on the Mythos such as the Marble Hornets and the TribeTwelve. As of this version, the game was officially renamed Slender: The Eight Pages to avert confusion with its sequel, Slender: The Inflow . "$twenty Mode" was likewise removed from this version due to copyright issues. "MH Mode" was renamed to "Marble Hornets Mode" (just the unabbreviated version of the title). Two new light sources became available: a glow stick with almost no light, and well-nigh no range at all, and a creepo lantern with a wide range, but a short corporeality of calorie-free which must exist replenished by cranking the lantern. The thespian also gained the ability to break the game by pressing "Escape" on the keyboard, but only when there is no static on the screen as to not allow the player to quit in response to beingness frightened. [3]

The game was given a backstory in its successor; Slender: The Inflow . It was confirmed that the proper name of the grapheme controlled in this game is Kate, also known every bit the Attorney in The Inflow.

Reception [ edit ]
